Your probably looking at this like what the hell is he talking about this is what I mean. I love MMA as much as the next guy I love the competition. But seeing the same guy defend the title over and over and just dominate everybody he is fighting is starting to get a bit old. Georges St. Pierre and Anderson Silva are my main point. I mean it was nice to see Silva be challenged by Chael Sonnen although you guys know my whole philosophy on taking a guy down and doing nothing doesnt make you a fighter but still it was decent to see. But I mean GSP? Who has given him trouble in any of his title defenses? I mean the takedown by Koscheck in the last fight is really the only clear offensive move any of his opponents have made against him. Its just getting old.
Look at the other divisions, Heavyweight Lesnar made a decent two defense run and then got stopped by Velesquez and its likely that Velesquez will lose against Dos Santos so there you go so you get to see new faces there. Lightweight BJ Penn defended the title 3 times then got beat in a close fight against Frankie Edgar of course typical UFC call an immediate rematch and then he gets dominated in that one.
Ok I know the point of a champion is to be the best and no one can beat you and Silva & GSP are clear definitions of true champions but I mean I am sitting here and thinking how stacked a close both divisions would be should GSP and Silva leave.
In welterweight you have Koshceck, Fitch (dear god), Alves, Shields, Sanchez, Condit any of these guys could win the title and make a run but unlike GSP they could easily lose at any time which makes it interesting.
Middleweight same thing, Marquardt, Sonnen, Okami, Bisping, Akiyama, Leben. Ok Leben is a bias choice but I am just saying. It makes the UFC much more interesting then oh Silva is going to run through Belfort, or GSP wins again. I am probably the ONLY person who feels this way but I am just saying it be nice to have a much more competitive division.
