because I am a huge Forrest fan, this is my wish list for fights to see in the future.
According to MMA Ratings, here is the top ten LH fighters(in order): Rua (19-4), Machida(16-2), Evans(15-1-1), Griffin(18-6), Jackson(31-8), Franklin(28-6),Thiago Silva(15-2), Jones(12-1), Bader(12-1), and I guess cavalcante(10-2) fight strikeforce, so he's out.
Forrest already beat Rua, Jackson, and Franklin.
The fights I would like to see because I think Forrest can win: Bader, Silva and Calvalcante.
Then I would like to see a rematch versus Rashad.
After that I think he should fight Jones then Machida and Rua again.
This would just make me happy. I think out of all the light heavyweights that are out there, Forrest is one of the best right now.
Forrest has beaten the current champion and He is 5-2 in the last 7 fights. His last 6 fights have all been against former or current champions.
No matter what you think of him, on paper at the very least, he holds his own in this division with a 18-6 record.

Some interesting LH fights coming up:
Rampage vs Thiago Silva, May 28th Jone Jones vs Mauricio Rua, March 19th Lyoto Machida vs Randy Couture, April 30th
I would just like to see all these top 10 guys fight each other. It would be nice if we have each of the top 10 guys with either a win or a loss against each of the other top 10 guys.

you know my feelings on forrest, he's a shitty fighter. he only beats guys with gaping weaknesses. with rich it was size. rampage it was distance and using his kick as a jab. rampage has trouble coming towards guys who keep distance. his win over shogun was when shogun's cardio sucked. a great wrestler does what rashad did. a great striker does what anderson did. thiago silva would knock him out, so would bader. jones would decimate him. it's hard to win fights without any real strengths.
forrest's weaknesses: weak chin little to no ko power poor wrestling brawls sloppily against guys who bring it
it's hard to win with those setbacks against guys who will impose their will on him. guys with a good gameplan and use their strengths get the job done.
i know i am being extra harsh, i don't expect to change your mind. i think rich would have won had he been more aggressive with his punches. but even rich isn't really an elite fighter. he looks so small at LHW. forrest almost lost a decision to tito ortiz!!! (i personally had tito) the guy does not have the tools to be good.

i think a rematch with bonnar would be competitive. jason brilz. lil nog.
there are 3 good match ups for you. i think they're all winnable. it'd have to be ugly like it was against rampage to beat nog, but doable.

The thing that I hate is when people (ESPECIALLY Chris and JDH) talk all kinds of crap about Forrest and predict horrible decimations of him before a fight and then make excuses when he wins.
I would like to see HONEST, UNBIASED opinions of what people think is going to happen during a fight...BEFORE a fight and then those same people saying, "HOLY CRAP I AM WRONG HE IS BETTER THAN I THOUGHT" afterward.
Because what did or would you have said before the fight? Before ANY of his fights? and then what do people say after his fights?
Chris and JDH before the fight: "Forrest is getting KO'd"
Chris and JDH after the fight: "oh he is old and doesn't have any more. He just can't bring it like he used to"
WHATEVER....LIES! If he can't bring it anymore and he is old and the win over chuck took the fight out of him THEN WHY PREDICT THE KO!??!??!?!?
I completely agree with you, Mike on every point EXCEPT the chin and those matches. I think Forrest deserves to fight the top guys still and I think for him personally he has to keep fighting the best so he can get better and work on those weak areas.

his chin is definitely suspect. anderson ko'd him on a backpedaling jab. rashad ko'd him from his guard i believe. jardine ko'd him. jeremy horn ko'd him. he's been rocked in many fights. who do you think at LHW has a worse chin??
i often think chris and JDH are poor analysts. it's whatever. i don't listen to the show much anymore. they're entertaining and all but it's like hearing mike goldberg break down fights. i agree with you.
however, i think it was a pretty realistic prediction to say rich via ko. no, it didn't happen, but that doesn't mean forrest is better than the predictor thought. it wasn't a very telling fight as far as his skill set goes. to me, it proved very little. if anything, maybe it says something about rich. did forrest beating rampage mean he was better than i had thought?? nope. look at his following fights for proof. that shogun he beat BARELY made it through a pitiful mark coleman. i think the tito rematch is proof of the level forrest is at. tito is a bad striker with ok wrestling. any A-level LHW should steamroll him.

as for MMA rating's list, what a joke. jon jones behind forrest, thiago, and franklin is just unbelievable.

Ya, as usual you make great points. I can't argue with you as much as I want to.
The only thing I can argue with is that he did beat who he did beat. The things you point out are things I definitely wish he would improve on and I am hoping he has improved on.
